Blood Flow Modeling in Coronary Arteries: A Review

چکیده
Atherosclerosis is one of the main causes cardiovascular events, namely, myocardium infarction and cerebral stroke, responsible for a great number deaths every year worldwide. This pathology caused by progressive accumulation low-density lipoproteins, cholesterol, other substances on arterial wall, narrowing its lumen. To date, many hemodynamic studies have been conducted experimentally and/or numerically; however, this disease not yet fully understood. For reason, research still ongoing, mainly, resorting to computational methods. These increasingly used in biomedical atherosclerosis because their high-performance hardware software. Taking into account attempts that made techniques simulate realistic conditions blood flow both diseased healthy arteries, present review aims give an overview most recent numerical focused coronary addressing viscosity models, applied physiological conditions. In general, regardless boundary conditions, contributed better understanding development disease, diagnosis, treatment.

Coronary Arteries and Coronary Blood Flow
T ransthoracic two-dimensional echocardiography can be used to detect impaired global and regional function of the left and right ventricles, two indirect signs of coronary artery disease. Coronary artery visualization was first reported in 19761 and was further improved by use of tissue differentiation2 and digital imaging techniques with high frequency annular array transducers.3 By use not o...
متن کاملDirect volumetric blood flow measurement in coronary arteries by thermodilution.
OBJECTIVES This study sought to validate a new method for direct volumetric blood flow measurement in coronary arteries in animals and in conscious humans during cardiac catheterization. BACKGROUND Direct volumetric measurement of blood flow in selective coronary arteries would be useful for studying the coronary circulation. METHODS Based on the principle of thermodilution with continuous ...
متن کاملBlood Flow in Arteries
Blood flow in arteries is dominated by unsteady flow phenomena. The cardiovascular system is an internal flow loop with multiple branches in which a complex liquid circulates. A nondimensional frequency parameter, the Womersley number, governs the relationship between the unsteady and viscous forces. Normal arterial flow is laminar with secondary flows generated at curves and branches. The arte...
متن کاملPhasic coronary blood flow velocity in intramural and epicardial coronary arteries.
Knowledge concerning phasic coronary blood flow is based primarily on measurements obtained from epicardial coronary arteries, which, in part, function as capacitors. If present, epicardial capacitance effects could obscure the dynamic nature of phasic intramyocardial perfusion. To analyze this effect of epicardial capacitance, we simultaneously measured coronary blood flow velocity in an epica...
متن کاملSubstance P dilates epicardial coronary arteries and increases coronary blood flow in humans.
The effects of intracoronary infusions of substance P in conscious humans on epicardial vessel diameter and coronary sinus oxygen saturation were investigated in 13 patients who had angiographically normal coronary arteries. The dose of substance P ranged from 2.8 to 89.6 pmol/min, starting at 2.8 pmol/min and rising by doubling increments. All infusions were performed for 2-minute periods. Epi...
